What We Do
Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) offer free business counselling, loans for start-up and expansion of small business, strategic planning on local projects and community economic development in rural areas.
As a community economic development organization, we consider education an important resolution, among many, to improve the local economy. Dealing with businesses on a regular basis has opened our eyes to the gap between employers and employees. YSTOP is designed to bridge that gap by teaching the most important lessons as expressed by our local employers.
As you may be aware, both the Skills Gap Study and the Employer One Survey administered by the Workforce Planning Board of Wellington, Waterloo and Dufferin and the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, respectively, yielded valuable information about the type of skills local employers are seeking. These surveys identified a wide variety of “soft skills” that employers are having difficulty finding in the local labour force.
In order to address some of these “soft skills” gaps, the Wellington-Waterloo Community Futures is partnering with the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation to deliver a 9-part training workshop series for youth in grades 8-12 to help them understand and develop these skills.
These workshops will be led by local facilitators that have expertise in these areas and who are excited about working with youth. The participants will receive a certificate upon completion, and it is our hope that the employers, educators, and partners in the local community will recognize the efforts these young people have made to prepare themselves for the workforce; be it a seasonal job, an internship or a full-time position.
